Moreno, Lucas 2017 120xLucas Moreno (Menorca, 1979) received his medical degree from Universidad de Granada in 2003 and subsequently trained in Paediatrics, specialized in Oncology & Haematology at Hospital Universitario La Fe in Valencia. He then moved to London where he has worked at The Royal Marsden Hospital & Institute of Cancer Research from 2008 to 2012, as a Clinical Research Fellow, Locum Consultant and Senior Investigator in Paediatric Oncology Drug Development under the mentoring of Andy Pearson.

He has developed a career in drug development for paediatric oncology & haematology focusing his research in neuroblastoma and brain tumours. Starting with his European PhD degree, granted in 2012, Lucas focused his laboratory research in the development of biomarkers and new combination therapies for neuroblastoma.

In 2013 he moved back to Spain, where he started the Clinical Trials Unit at Hospital NiƱo Jesus (, which initially focused on Paediatric Oncology & Haematology in collaboration with the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre, and now provides service to all paediatric specialties, with a portfolio of more than 40 clinical trials, from phase I first-in-child to phase III. Its main areas of expertise are paediatric cancers, non-malignant haematology and rare diseases, covering industry and academic early clinical trials of molecular, immune, cell and gene therapies.

He is an active member of the European networks for early clinical trials (ITCC) in Paediatric Oncology and neuroblastoma (SIOPEN), and belongs to RECLIP (Spanish Network for Paediatric Clinical Trials). He has published close to 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
