Karthik Venkatakrishnan is Vice President and Global Head of Quantitative Pharmacology at EMD Serono, Inc., Billerica, MA, USA. In this role, he is accountable for the leadership of Clinical Pharmacology, Translational Modeling and Simulation, and Pharmacometrics in support of global R&D in the therapeutic areas of Oncology, Immuno-Oncology, Neurology and Immunology, and Lifecycle Management for marketed products. Prior to joining EMD Serono, Karthik was Head of Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology at Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Co., Cambridge, MA, USA, with accountability for clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics leadership for global drug development programs in Takeda’s core therapeutic areas of Oncology, Neuroscience, Gastroenterology and Rare Diseases, and the Marketed Products Group. Karthik’s areas of professional and research interest include Oncology R&D, Model-Informed Drug Development, and topics in translational science at the interface of drug metabolism and clinical pharmacology. Karthik received his Ph.D in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Tufts University, Boston. Prior to joining Takeda, he was a Clinical Pharmacology Lead at Pfizer, Groton, CT, supporting drug development projects in the therapeutic areas of Neuroscience and Metabolic Diseases.
Karthik is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and a member of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), having served as Chair (2013-2014) of the ASCPT Scientific Program Committee and Chair (2017-2018) of the ASCPT Quantitative Pharmacology Network. He is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 50 abstracts. Karthik is an Associate Editor of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and a Consulting Editor of Clinical Therapeutics. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Clinical and Translational Science; Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development; and International Journal of Pharmacokinetics. Karthik is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA.
