Gabe S. Sonke, MD, PhD, has been Staff Medical Oncologist under the Division of Medical Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, since 2008. From 2013 to 2014, Dr. Sonke served as Director of Research for the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organisation (IKNL).
Dr. Sonke received his master’s degree in science in Biomedical Health Sciences, doctorate in philosophy in Epidemiology, and doctor of medicine degree at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He completed his residencies in Internal Medicine at the University Medical Centre Utrecht, Netherlands, and in Medical Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam.
Dr. Sonke presently is a member of several oncology societies, including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Association for Cancer Research Project GENIE (Genomics, Evidence, Neoplasia, Information, Exchange) group, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) General Assembly, Early Career Investigator, and Breast Cancer Groups, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the Dutch Gynaecological Oncology Group. Additionally, he serves as a board member on the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board and the Dutch Society for Medical Oncology, he is Chair of the neo-adjuvant Working Force of the Dutch Breast Cancer Study Group, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Netherlands Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Sonke has presented at many symposia and scientific meetings. His research interests include ovarian cancer, breast cancer, rationale drug development, as well as palliative systemic treatment and late side effects of cancer treatment. This research has been published in more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
